The Great Monarch Migration Comes to Port St. Joe
A 3,000-Mile Journey of Beauty and Survival
Every fall, the Monarch butterfly makes one of the most remarkable migrations in the natural world—traveling more than 3,000 miles south from the United States and Canada to Mexico. These small yet mighty creatures depend on safe havens along the way, and right here on Florida’s Forgotten Coast, we have an incredible opportunity to play a role in their journey.
This October, the Port St. Joe Garden Club is inviting the community to learn more about this amazing phenomenon and discover practical ways to support pollinators in our own backyards.

Why Monarchs Matter to the Forgotten Coast
Pollinators like Monarch butterflies, bees, and hummingbirds are vital to the health of our ecosystem. They help ensure the success of crops, flowers, and the natural beauty that makes Port St. Joe, Cape San Blas, and Mexico Beach such special places to live and visit. By providing food and shelter for Monarchs in your own yard, you’re contributing to both local biodiversity and global conservation efforts.
Join the Movement—Help the Monarchs
The Monarch migration is more than just a natural wonder—it’s a reminder of the delicate balance between people, wildlife, and the environment. Whether you’re a lifelong gardener, a new homeowner looking to add pollinator plants, or simply curious about nature, this event offers something for everyone.
Come ready to learn, enjoy refreshments, and take home the tools to make a difference in your own backyard.
